Ode to Annie

We love that we have both sets of parents who live so close and who are so able-bodied that they take care of most of our baby-sitting needs. Rarely do we have a time when we need a sitter and they can't cover it. This is such a blessing and we both really cherish the time that our children spend with their grandparents, as well as the special relationship they are developing on their own.

This summer, however, we enlisted the help of a friend from church. A college student, whom many at our church refer to as the baby-whisperer, named Annie. Not only was she available when I needed her, but the kids LOVED spending time with her. Something about the energy and creativity of one so young yet so responsible. Thanks to Annie, we now make Peanut Butter and Jelly sushi rolls. Thanks to Annie, both of our kids will sit down and draw pictures. Because of Annie, our children are inspired.

I often came home to find coloring sheets that Annie created with just a piece of paper and a black pen. Then she'd have the kids color them in or draw on them. Or she would make these beautiful doodles and leave them for us to admire. (Granted, it looks better without their names distorted, but you get the idea).

One day, I came home and found this story. The kids came up with the story and Annie created the illustrations.

It reads:

A Mouse's Life by B & G

Once upon a time there was a mouse who was in DANGER. He was scared so he started moving and the danger followed right behind him. Lucky for him, he escaped from the cat who was trying to eat him. He went to see his family after he got away from the cat. So he ran home quickly. They were all happy to see him and gave him a BIG hug. The End!
